Des Moines Flying Service, Inc., was founded on the Des Moines Municipal Airport in 1937 and acquired by our legendary founder, Howard Gregory, in 1939.
The Legacy Continues
In 1987, Des Moines Flying Service was sold to Van Dusen Airport Services, which later became Signature Flight Support. Nearly 80 years ago, Piper Aircraft named the company as one of the first Piper Aircraft Distributors – a relationship that continues to this day. Our aircraft sales efforts continued as Gregory Aviation Company.
In 1994, Des Moines Flying Service re-acquired Des Moines Flying Service (DMFS) name & brand, as well as the Service, Avionics and Parts business from Signature, to more closely align our sales and service efforts.
One of the longest-tenured Piper Dealers, DMFS was originally appointed as a Piper Distributor by William T. Piper himself. Today, DMFS is an exclusive Piper Dealer for Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Our Piper Service Center is considered one of the largest and most capable in North America. Our service & parts technicians and aircraft sales team members are factory trained and considered among the foremost Piper experts in the industry.
In 2006, Des Moines Flying Service was selected by Honda America to be one of four US dealers to sell and service the HondaJet exclusively. As HondaJet Midwest, we are the sole dealer serving twelve Midwestern states for sales and service including Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, North/South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. In addition to our fully trained and qualified service technicians, a Honda Aircraft employed Field Service Representative is resident full time at DMFS to ensure prompt resolution to any aircraft service situation. Our aircraft sales team has been engaged in the HondaJet program since its inception and is type rated in the HondaJet to ensure operational expertise.
In addition to providing complete General Aviation maintenance services, in 1985 Des Moines Flying Service started maintaining the FED EX and UPS fleet, and progressively expanded to contract maintenance for all domestic airlines at the Des Moines International Airport over the next few years. DMFS is the only contract maintenance provider at the Des Moines International Airport for airline maintenance needs on an “on-call” and scheduled basis – 24-hours a day, seven days a week. DMFS currently provides 24/7 scheduled and on-call service to 15 air carriers in Des Moines. All of our technicians are Airline Rated and maintain annual recurrent training.
